Top 5 Carpooling and Ridesharing Apps on Android in Africa: Q4 2022

The last quarter of 2022 saw notable trends in the performance of the leading carpooling and ridesharing apps on the Android platform in Africa. Here’s a breakdown of how the top 5 apps fared during this period, based on data from Sensor Tower.

inDrive. Save on city rides maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads peaking at approximately 192K in mid-November. However, there was a noticeable decline towards the end of the quarter, dropping to around 103K by the last week of December. Weekly active users hovered around 1.1M, showing minor fluctuations throughout the quarter.

Bolt: Request a Ride experienced relatively stable weekly downloads, with numbers ranging from 104K to 138K. The app saw a slight dip in active users towards the end of December, closing the quarter at roughly 1.97M active users, down from a peak of approximately 2.25M in late October.

Yango — different from a taxi showed a significant increase in weekly downloads, peaking at about 174K at the end of October before settling around 96K by the end of December. Active users also saw a steady rise, reaching around 301K in mid-December before slightly declining to approximately 291K.

Uber - Request a ride had consistent weekly downloads, ranging from 66K to 93K throughout the quarter. Weekly active users showed a slight downward trend, starting at approximately 2.39M and ending the quarter at around 1.99M.

Yassir - Ride, Eat & Shop experienced a steady increase in weekly downloads, starting at around 67K and peaking at approximately 84K in the final week of December. Active users also saw an upward trend, reaching about 298K by the end of the quarter.
